The Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 (‘the CYPA’) was passed in the
Scottish Parliament on 19 February 2014. The CYPA was designed to bring about changes to promote, support and safeguard the well-being of children and young people in Scotland. The Act provides additional support for care-experienced young people.
Among other things, gives looked after young people the right to stay in the same placement up to 21 where possible. Local Authorities supporting looked after young people will also have to provide “advice, guidance and assistance” to care leavers up to the age of 26.
