If you’re feeling stressed, unhappy or are in financial trouble – you’ll likely be granted permission to take some time out from your studies. Sometimes the best thing to do if you are struggling with studies or feel overwhelmed is to take some time to get back on track. You can defer from anywhere from a term to two years, depending on your circumstances and the institution.
The first thing to do is tell someone! You can arrange to meet with your personal tutor to discuss how you are feeling and the situation. They can then get the process started and keep in touch for when you are ready to return to study.
If you decide to take a year out, you’ll need to inform Student Finance. Your director of studies, student services or the student union can help you with this process if you are not confident doing it on your own. Check your institute’s website to find the necessary contact details.
